Maranatha Christian Church hosted an event last night called the ''Great Evangelism," in the Paulo Sarasate Gymnasium. Gathering adherents from the Metropolitan Area of Fortaleza and a few cities in the western part of the State, the meeting was presided over by Pastor ___, and it addressed the great catastrophes occuring around in the world and their connection with Bible prophecies.
Founded in the EspĂ­rito Santo in 1967, today Maranatha Christian Church Maranata exists in 54 countries. ''Jesus Christ will return - this is our message. Our principal objectives are to prepare the people for Jesus' return, and to strengthen the basic values of the country, such as the patriotism and the family,'' explains to Pastor C___, one of the organizers of the event.
C____ added that the pastors of Maranata are all volunteers, and the Church never campaigns to collect tithes and offeringss. By his account, nearly 11,000 people were expected in this meeting, which had occurred there on two previous occasions. In July 2004, 3000 adherents attended the event. In January 2005, the number of participants grew to 7700 people.
