Looking Towards Seminars in India

One of our pastors recently reported upon meeting with a young pastor from India who discovered Maranatha Christian Church through the website.

"[He] is a former Buddhist monk who converted to Christianity several years ago, narrowly survived an attempt by his mother to kill him (she ran out of bullets and he got away), and attended Bible school in the mid-1990’s. Before becoming a Buddhist, he’d drifted from Hinduism to Islam to Shintoism, leaving each one after becoming disillusioned. He is 28 and single. After leaving Bible school he was sent my a missions organization in India to plant a church in the capital of Nepal, and he was there for about three years. While he was there, he realized he needed to break away from the group he’d joined because of some strange doctrines they taught. The Lord spoke to him and told him to start a new ministry called “Maranatha,” and to have prayers every day with his members before dawn. Since then, as far as I understand, he has planted about 14 churches and has three pastors working under him. The churches or groups are comprised mostly of Hindu or Buddhist converts, and are located in 3 regions: Bihar (the province of India along the border of Nepal), the Northeast (Tripura, etc.) and in Nepal itself. He has been imprisoned several times (mostly in Nepal), but he still persists in going there to preach every month. He is nearly without possessions. To assist the remote churches, he either borrows someone’s bicycle and rides for hours and hours, or walks (sometimes for a couple days straight), or takes a (not air-conditioned) bus for places hundreds of miles away. He speaks 12 languages. He says the Lord directed him to our website (as opposed to the many others that use the same name), and that he and his members have had real experiences with the Lord as he shared the revealed teachings we’ve sent, and as he received prayer over the phone when he called me once or twice. He accepted all the teachings so far at the seminars (he attended the beginners’ classes and sixth period), and has extended his stay in Brazil until March 2....He is insistent that we send a couple pastors there to do seminars in May, and he really expects attendance to be in the thousands."
