Special Services for Holidays
One of the most important services our churches have all year is the New Year's Eve Vigil, when our members spend the passing of the year on our knees in the presence of the Lord. During the service members thank the Lord specifically for blessings and answers to prayer received during the last year, and put their needs for the coming year before the Lord. We also reflect on the theme verse the Lord gave us for 2004, "Be strong and courageous, For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Josh 1:9. Indeed, this has been a great description of what happened to us this past year, as we saw the greatest expansion ever of our churches overseas. We cannot wait to hear what the Lord has planned for us for 2005! It is a wonderful experience to usher in the New Year on one's knees before the Lord, in the midst of His people.
Every year the Lord gives us special messages to be delivered in all our churches on Dec. 25, Dec. 31 (the Vigil service), and Jan. 1. These are circulated to all the pastors and preached in our churches everywhere in the world. Like many other churches, ours tend to attract extra visitors on holidays - perhaps partly because people have time off work, and partly because church members have relatives visiting whom they can bring to a service. The messages in these services, therefore, are always a very positive word focusing on the salvation that God offers us, and the hope for the coming year (we do not spend the time criticizing cultural trends about holiday observances, or other negative things like that). We always find these moments in the Lord's presence very encouraging.
